The Power of Texans

An Annual 5k Fun Run, 1 Mile Walk, and Family Festival in honor of Autism Awareness Month

The DFW Center for Autism hosted the Power of Texans as an opportunity for the community to honor the courage of children and families affected by autism, celebrate the successful advances in the treatment for autism, and highlight the power that Texans can have when they come together to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

The 5th Annual Power of Texans at Vista Ridge Park in Lewisville on April 21, 2007. The event as always included:
- 5k Run for Autism
- 1 Mile Fun Walk
- Fundraising Teams
- Family Festival featuring children's games, food, and entertainment.

The proceeds from Power of Texans directly benefit the DFW Center for Autism's programs:
Texas Star Academy preschool, Community Education and Training, and Outreach Treatment Services. Our programs are grounded in the belief of utilizing the best research treatment practices. Our treatment programs promote Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is thus far, the only scientifically based treatment proven to be effective with children with autism.

In 2007, fundraising activities will support:
- Expansion of Community Education and Training to include an intensive parent training program, additional full day workshop opportunities, and increased training agreements with public education and treatment entities.
- Growth of Outreach Services which enable the Center to provide treatment for children in their home, community and school.
- Much needed facility renovations for the expansion of the Texas Star Academy Preschool.

Your 2007 participation and contributions mean so much to the children, families and professionals in this DFW Center for Autism community.
